In-Home Occupational Therapy Assistant Treatment
Direct practice in real-life environments
A cost-effective model offering one-on-one therapy with higher frequency and intensity to meet your goals faster.
Occupational Therapy Assistants are professionals who work under the supervision and guidance of registered Occupational Therapists (OTs). An OTA’s role is to bring the OT’s care plan to life through engaging, supportive, and consistent hands-on sessions in your home environment.
The OTA service is provided at certain locations only. Reach out to your local CATS to find out more.
At CATS, we provide personalized, in-home occupational therapy assistant (OTA) services to help children, teens, and young adults build skills, increase independence, and improve quality of life.
Whether it’s supporting everyday routines, building confidence going out into the community, or helping manage executive functions, we meet your child where they are, literally and figuratively.

What to Expect From Our In-Home OTA
OTA sessions are generally longer than OT sessions and focus on practicing multiple OT functional goals in a natural context, with breaks for the client throughout the session. This allows enough time to address longer goals and goals that are more naturally occurring in the home environment. Whether it’s working on cooking, community independence, organizational skills related to homework, leisure skills, chores or daily living skills (dressing, tooth brushing, deodorant, showering), your OT will set up a program and the OTA can practice with your child in their own home.
To ensure the best possible treatment environment, we ask that a parent or designated caregiver be on-site and that families help manage siblings and pets during in-home sessions. This will create a distraction-free area where therapy can take place effectively.

How Our OTA Therapy Process Works
STEP 1
OT Evaluation & Treatment
Every OTA program at CATS starts with an OT intake and 1 package of OT treatment so the OT can set the goals and establish the program.
STEP 2
Joint
Session
After goals are established with your OT, your family will then be introduced to the OTA through a joint visit (both OT and OTA attending). This is helpful so the client understands the plan and expectations of what will happen.
STEP 3
In-Home / Community Sessions
In discussions with you, a schedule is set and we come to you, providing guided, hands-on practice and support within the home and community.
STEP 4
Progress & Treatment Updates
Your OTA will share observations and results with the OT after each visit. OT reviews these weekly and adjusts the plan so that we maximize progress over the course of treatment.
